Monday May 8, 2023 - Merging of Hopewell & Terrace Court 2nd Floor
The nurse managers, acting executive director, and I met last week in regards to our changing clientele and the need for Rocmaura to transition along with the systemic changes we are experiencing. We would like to share this information with you and are looking forward to your help as we transition. In the near future, we will be combining the upstairs court into one; there will no longer be a Hopewell court. The nurse managers will each have ½ of the court to manage, and the care will be divided into 3 equal sections. This will allow for each section to have an LPN for passing medications and to assist in that section. During times when there may only be 2 LPNs available, the RNs will pass meds for ½ of the middle section. This will allow everyone to get assigned tasks completed in a timely manner. RAs will have an assignment much the same as now; care will not change, but reporting may be to a different RN depending on what section each person will be working in. During the movement of residents for our sprinkler system upgrade, we will see a gradual blending of residents with different needs happen on the court. We know that we need to be proactive and move forward. We do not have control in how long term care is changing, but we can make adjustments to help us successfully deal with the changing dynamics. We know that change is difficult for many, and we ask that you trust that we have the best interest of our residents, families and staff at heart. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me and I will do my best to ease your mind. Warm Regards, Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC, Director of Nursing lynn.mcphee@rocmaura.com Phone: 643-7061 April 26, 2023 - Construction on Burpee Avenue Beginning on May 1st, the City of Saint John will be blocking the lower 1/2 of Burpee Ave, between “Origins Daycare and the Chateau SJ Hotel” for an undetermined number of weeks. This means that all traffic must approach Rocmaura from Parks St. or Mount Pleasant St. Street parking on Burpee Ave, outside of RRR will be limited and may become impossible as the city work continues. Thank you, Paula Breen Support Services Manager paula.breen@rocmaura.com 506 643-7058 April 4, 2023 - Staff Photo ID's
Have you ever wondered who is behind the mask? Starting this week, all staff will be asked to get their picture taken and it will be placed on your access cards for places you need to go in the home and will be part of your required uniform. This is a great way for your residents, families, and coworkers to be able to know you. Please display your new photo ID's on the left side of your chest. Picture name tags are available every Wednesday, starting April 5 (8:30am-12noon or 1:00pm-3:30pm) with Janice Carr in the Payroll office. You may have heard a bit of the buzz in the hallways. With the exception of Trinity Court, our entire sprinkler system is being replaced, by the Province of New Brunswick, commencing on Monday, April 17th. This has been on our list of upgrades required for many years, and has finally come to fruition. There are 2 contractors Flood Construction and Viking Sprinkler. Oversight from the Province is by the Dept of Transportation and Infrastructure and our on site Manager is Harry Searle. With a project as large and challenging as this, we have been preparing our plans to accommodate the residents and staff during the expected 14 month duration project, target finish date is June, 2024. Eventually, all residents, excluding Trinity Court, will need to move out of their room, for about 4-5 weeks, as we provide the contractor with a group of 12 rooms at a time. By doing this, we can expedite their work and hopefully improve on the 14 month duration. We will be starting at the dining room end of Garden Court on April 17th. The residents’ care, comfort and safety is our primary concern as always. This has been expressed whole-heartedly to the contractors and all others that will be involved in this project. When your resident is moving, you will hear directly from the RN in charge of their current Court. All areas under construction will be set up with required air flow and fire separations. When the sprinkler system is offline, there will be 24/7 fire watch provided by the contractor. We will provide residents and staff with ear protection if and when needed. Families & Friends: How Can You Help? One of the most helpful things is to remove excess and seasonal items/clothes from your resident’s room. We truly appreciate all efforts in this regard, as that will greatly help the many moves that will happen. Please take home valuables and breakables if possible. Being here with your resident when their moves are happening would also be very helpful. We will do our best to keep you well informed as we move forward with this long overdue and needed upgrade to our facility. You may direct general questions to Theresa Mercer or Lynn McPhee below. M. We are having a storage space built at the end of Hopewell to house the essentials for the court. All tub rooms are being decluttered. Our goal is to make each of the tub rooms a SPA-LIKE experience for the residents. If you have any ideas you want to contribute, please let us know! We already have some colorful new shower curtains and look forward to having some little extras to create that relaxing environment. We have requested towel warmers for each Spa Room and the Foundation has added it to our wish list! It is fantastic to be able to do this for the residents and I thank everyone who will make this happen! Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC Friday November 18, 2022 5:30pm - New Locking System Due to updated resident safety requirements, we have implemented a new locking mechanism on the inside door at the Burpee Avenue entrance. When residents wearing wanderguard bracelets are within 8 feet of the door, the door will stay locked and you will not be able to use the red button to enter. The door will remain locked until the resident moves further away. We ask your patience while the resident is re-directed. When exiting the building, if the alarm is set off from inside, as it has been in the past, a staff member will have to reset the alarm on the wall as we have been doing all along. As you are exiting the building, please make sure the door closes behind you, so that residents who are not able to leave unaccompanied, remain safely in the building.
