Aubrey Reid Scholarship

2024 RecipientsCongratulations Sarah Buckley & Alyse Sawatsky, both 3rd year nursing students at UNBSJ who are working as RA's at Rocmaura.
Sarah Buckley believes that every moment offers valuable lessons for growth and empathy. Recognizing challenges has given her life’s purpose to embrace life and use our talents to uplift others. She is inspired by her mother and grandmother who are both nurses and is following in their footsteps. She is also a Research assistant at UNBSJ collaborating on projects to improve healthcare practices, Sarah volunteers to help newcomers as part of a sponsorship group to bring Eritrean refugees to Canada Alyse Sawatsky says Rocmaura has been a profound learning experience for her, enriching her understanding of compassionate care, that has influenced her approach to caregiving. She values the role of family in the care of elderly and prioritizes fostering strong relationships, providing support and reassurance during their loved ones’ journey through communication and connection with families and collaboration with staff. She wants residents to feel valued respected and supported. |
2022 Recipients
Rocmaura Foundation congratulates the 2022 Aubrey Reid Memorial Scholarship recipients, Jenna Ferris, Karlie Kotsabasakis, and Kieran Fitzpatrick!
All three Resident Attendants received $500 bursaries to further their education in healthcare. The scholarships were made possible with a $13,000 donation from Aubrey Reid's family and the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception are are available to staff members who demonstrate how they live the mission of Rocmaura to provide compassionate care. Aubrey was a board member at Rocmaura for 9 years and served as Chair. He passed away in December 2018. His sister Heather Oakley was also a longtime board member and Chair. We are very grateful for their gift that is having such a positive impact on our home.
