Hello everyone,
As a follow up to the email on the weekend about Garden Court, the court is now closed at the direction of our medical staff, as an extra layer of caution. All residents are now on antibiotics, which should limit transmission within 24 hours of starting the antibiotics.
If you come to visit, you will need to take extra precautions visiting a resident who is on isolation. Please ask staff for help if you are unsure about what to do.
Visitors may still visit but are asked to limit their visit to their loved one and to not go to other areas of the home.
All services will be provided on the court and the residents will remain on the court until we receive further direction.

Good afternoon everyone,
Regrettably, we are not yet able to declare Garden Court outbreak over. We are thankful that the residents are all now recovered, and there are no isolation rooms to contend with. Thank you all for your efforts in making this happen. We do however have to wait until Oct 30th to declare the outbreak over, barring any new cases. Until then, we continue to need to wear masks at all times. Please always use good hand and respiratory hygiene; this is so very important 24/7/365.

Good afternoon everyone
We are sorry to report that we have Covid outbreaks on Trinity, Terrace and Garden Court. We are thankful that Hopewell remains free of covid.
Good news is that we have residents who are now coming off of precautions and are no longer in isolation. This is certainly a relief for everyone. Our residents who were previously vaccinated have been managing well, for which we are so very thankful.
Visitors and staff MUST wear a mask at all times on these courts. Masks are available at the main entrance. There are Covid testing kits there as well, please take them home with you and share with your families.
Please read all signage at the resident’s door and, if on isolation, follow instructions before entering the resident room. FULL PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) MUST BE WORN IN ISOLATED RESIDENT’S ROOMS. Please review the proper steps for putting on and taking off PPE. If you are unsure how to safely do this, ask for assistance; we are more than happy to help keep you and others safe.
Please stay very diligent in watching for symptoms. If you are experiencing ANY cold/flu/covid like symptoms or gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms like nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, please stay home until you feel better. We are seeing GI symptoms with the current covid strain. Please make sure that you use really great hand and respiratory hygiene.
Please let your other family members and regular visitors know by sharing this email with them.
Together, we will continue to keep the residents and ourselves safe and healthy and stop the spread of Covid as quick as we can.
Visitation to the Home remains open. We thank you for all your understanding and support.
Warm Regards,Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC
Thursday October 5, 2023
We are seeing more Covid cases in our home and the community, and we have 2 courts in outbreak presently. On the direction of public health, starting today, everyone is required to have medical grade masks on in all areas of the home where staff, family, visitors and volunteers will be face to face with residents. This means that if there is a resident present, you need to have a mask on. Medical grade masks will be available at the main door. Kindly sanitize your hands before you take a mask to put on.
Masking will not be required in areas of the Home where residents do not receive care, services or socialize. You may see staff not in the vicinity of residents without a mask on; they are doing exactly what they are supposed to do.
Please take care as we enter the fall respiratory season. Stay home if you are unwell and get vaccinated! Enjoy the beautiful colors of Autumn!
Happy Thanksgiving

Wednesday August 30, 2023 INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES & VISITORS
We are hearing more chatter about the upcoming virus season- RSV, INFLUENZA, and COVID.
We do not have new directives yet from Public Health for the coming fall, but feel it is important to send a gentle reminder regarding respiratory viruses.
In order to prevent an outbreak of any respiratory kind, please stay home when ill.
Sanitize and Wash Your Hands Frequently- use the hand sanitizer at the entrance when you come in AND when you leave for home.
Get tested if you have symptoms, if your POCT is negative 3 times, you may have the flu and should be tested for this as well.
With new variants, and the fact that we also do not want to spread ANY respiratory virus to others, it is important for all of us to be diligent.
Consider vaccinations for yourself and your loved ones!
As we start to see more colds and possibly flu and Covid infections, you may see some staff wearing a mask and shield in the Home.
This will be part of our preventative measures to mitigate risk to our residents and staff.
If a staff member has a known community exposure to covid, or is recovering from a cold, the flu or Covid, and still has minimal symptoms, they will be using enhanced workplace precautions as added protection.
At this time, there has been no new news from Public Health regarding the upcoming season, but as soon as we have information, we will be certain to pass along to you, our community partners in care.
We will also be preparing for our annual influenza vaccines for the residents and the next Covid vaccine that is being recommended for our residents and the new variants that are now circulating.
I hope this is somewhat helpful. It has been such a pleasure for all of us at Rocmaura to be able to enjoy a less restrictive summer.
My prayer is that we will be able to keep Rocmaura as healthy as possible as children return to school and people spend more time inside.
Everyone’s individual effort creates our success. Stay well!

Wednesday August 30, 2023 FOR STAFF
We seem to be hearing more chatter about the upcoming virus season- RSV, INFLUENZA, and COVID. T
Anyone who has mild symptoms or has had contact with someone positive for Covid, it is important to follow the enhanced workplace precautions when you are at work.
In order to prevent an outbreak of any respiratory kind, please stay home when ill.
Report to your supervisor that you have symptoms so we can direct you.
Sanitize and Wash Your Hands Frequently- use the hand sanitizer in the staff entrance when you come in AND when you leave for home.
Get tested if you have symptoms.
If your POCT is negative three times, you may have the flu and should be tested for this as well.
If you feel better and have no fever for 24hours, you can come to work. However, you need to use the Enhanced Workplace Precautions.
With new variants, and the fact that we also do not want to spread ANY respiratory virus to others, it is important for you to be diligent in monitoring your own symptoms. It is also very important that you continue to use the enhanced workplace precautions until you are better or your recommended days post infection are complete.
If you have covid, you need to continue to use the precautions until day 10 of symptom onset or positive Covid test.
If you have been in close contact with someone with Covid, you need to use enhanced workplace precautions for 20 days post exposure.
This is because the incubation period for the Covid virus varies and we need to be cautious until the likelihood of spread is over.
In order to keep the home for going into full PPE, we are counting on you to do the right thing for the greater good.
Remember that if we end up in outbreak, you too will need to wear PPE longer.
Let’s try our best collectively to spend as little time as possible using PPE this season
Enhanced Precaution Reminders
Use Tie Mask if possible for better fit-on at all times
Use shields-on at all times
Use nitrile gloves for care/cleaning
Frequent Hand Hygiene
Avoid crowded areas in the Home
Eat alone away from others
Wipe down bathroom- sink, toilet and handles/lunchroom with disinfectant wipes, and anything you touch while out of PPE 😉
Warm Regards,
Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC

Monday May 8, 2023 - Mask Mandate Lifted
Message to all staff, residents, families, visitors
As of May 8, 2023, there will no longer be a mask requirement at all times at Rocmaura. Although continuous masking requirements are being lifted, the COVID pandemic is not over. Public Health will continue to monitor the risks especially those in vulnerable settings like our Home. The requirement for continuous masking may be re-implemented should provincial evidence indicate the need.
Keeping our Home healthy and mask free will take a TEAM effort. Help us by doing the following:
Masks will continue to be readily available for those residents, staff and visitors who prefer to continue to use a mask, or in the case of an outbreak or initiation of Additional Precautions for symptomatic individuals.
We are so very excited to make this transition! Thank you all for your efforts that have brought us to this point!
With warm regards and big smiles,

We have new directives for testing residents and staff for Covid-10. PCRs are no longer required unless further direction from Public Health or Dr. Kristofferson. We also will not be deemed an outbreak due to staff positive covid cases. Two residents positive will be the criteria.
Resident Testing – Rapid antigen (POCT) testing should be the first choice when testing symptomatic residents.
Residents may also be tested using POCT, Abbott ID, or PCR, at the Dr’s discretion, by following our usual process.
Positive POCT results are interpreted as being COVID positive. No further testing is required. A positive POCT result may be used to access Paxlovid treatment; and PCR confirmation is not required.
If initial POCT result is negative and symptoms persist or worsen, retest with POCT in 24 hours.
If second test is still negative, re-test in another 48 hours.
If third test remains negative and symptoms persist, where possible, continue taking enhanced precautions until feeling better (i.e., until 24-hour fever free, and 48 hours free of vomiting or diarrhea, and all symptoms improving).

We are so very happy to report that our Covid outbreak will be declared over by Public Health tomorrow, Tuesday,
Feb 28, 2023 on Terrace Court. Thank you all for your patience, understanding and support as we all try to keep everyone safe and provide the best possible care and services to our residents/loved ones here at Rocmaura. Please continue to practice excellent hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, and most especially do not visit if you are ill or feeling under the weather at all.
We look forward to seeing residents moving more freely throughout the home and having visitors they would have missed for the past few weeks.
Thanks again for all you do for our residents! This is certainly a community of great people!

Unfortunately the Covid virus is with us again on Terrace Court. We have 2 residents confirmed positive and they are being isolated in their room. We also have 2 staff members positive. Terrace court is now deemed in an outbreak from Public Health. Anyone entering the court must have eye protection and their mask in place. Proper donning and doffing of these must be done on entering and exiting the court. The isolated resident’s room cannot be entered without full PPE. Please follow proper donning and doffing as per the signage posted.
I encourage each and every one to consider getting your Covid Vaccine as we know, without a doubt, that vaccines have helped our residents fight the worse symptoms and complications of Covid. As of February 2023, the recommended boosters will be every fall, much like our annual influenza vaccines. This is great news for the residents and staff!
If you do become ill with covid or influenza, you may qualify for Paxlovid or Tamiflu; these help to lessen the symptoms. Contact your medical care provider to see if you qualify. Remember that treatment must be within the first 5 days from symptom onset.
I encourage all of you to be very cautious to maintain good hand and respiratory hygiene, and to properly wear your PPE. Please leave your mask on at all times while in the Home. As a community member and part of Rocmaura, please provide gentle reminders if you see someone without a mask on or breaking infection prevention measures- we are all accountable to keep our loved ones safe. If you are reminded by a staff member or visitor, please accept it graciously and know it comes from a place of love for our residents.
Thank you once again for being such great members of our Rocmaura family! You are all so very much appreciated!

We have 2 residents on Terrace Court positive for Covid 19. For Terrace Court, we will need to return to only 1 designated visitor at a time, no general visitors, and wear eye protection in addition to your mask when visiting. If you see a room on isolation precautions, with a PPE cart outside it, please contact the RN in charge before entering. You will have been called if your resident is affected, but because of so many double rooms, their roommate may be on precautions as well.
For the benefit of new families, we provide disposable shields but you may purchase your own reuseable safety goggles at Canadian Tire or Princess Auto, and please clean them before entering the home and when leaving, wipes are provided.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email myself or Lynn McPhee, Director of Nursing, [email protected] .

We are happy to report that our Covid outbreak has been declared over by Public Health at midnight last evening. You may have noticed the removal of the signage at the Burpee Entrance. Thank you all for your patience, understanding and support as we all try to keep everyone safe and provide the best possible care. Please continue to practice excellent hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, and most especially do not visit if you are ill.
The door code has been changed to the current year *.
We have a supply of Covid tests available, if you would like a box to have at home, please drop by Roxanne Beatteay’s office to pick one up.
Remember to remove excess clothing and items from your resident’s room on a regular basis.
We want to draw your attention to our website www.rocmaura.com. We encourage you to have a look at it, you will find a lot of information on there that may be helpful, including our names, phone numbers and emails. There are even some videos about what we each do here.
Our Foundation is our biggest supporter and fund-raiser organization extraordinaire – they are continuously providing the extras to make Rocmaura more than a ‘nursing’ home for your loved one. They are included on our website and currently there are 2 draws going on – one for a Snowblower and a 50/50 draw, both to be held on January 20th (no this isn’t a call for snow ☹…but we know it’s inevitable). Good afternoon everyone, Unfortunately, we are seeing some spread of covid on Hopewell and Terrace. We now have 15 staff members and 11 residents confirmed positive for Covid. We are certainly pleased that the residents are fairing well, with no seriously acute illness. We and public health are owing this to the fact that most of our residents have had their vaccines kept up to date.
I encourage each and every one to consider getting your Covid Vaccine as we know, without a doubt, that vaccines have helped our residents fight the worse symptoms and complications of Covid. There are walk in appts at all Shoppers after 2pm daily, as well as the ability to make appointments at many pharmacies in our community. Please go to COVID-19 vaccines (gnb.ca) and scroll down to book your appointment today!
With the “triple threat” in the community of Covid, influenza, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), please also consider getting your influenza vaccine. Influenza has hit many quite hard as this is the first time in 2+ years that we have been exposed.
If you do become ill with covid or influenza, you may qualify for Paxlovid or Tamiflu; these help to lessen the symptoms. Contact your medical care provider to see if you qualify. Remember that treatment must be within the first 5 days from symptom onset.
As you gather with loved ones here at Rocmaura, I want to encourage all of you to be very cautious to maintain good hand and respiratory hygiene, and to properly wear your PPE.
From my Home to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed 2023! I look forward to another year of shared experiences, laughter and love!

It is unfortunate that we have to bring news of a Covid 19 outbreak. There are positive cases on Terrace and Hopewell Courts.
As a result, these courts both on the second floor, are no longer open to regular visitors.
Only Designated Support Persons (DSP) are permitted to enter. (with mask and eye protection) goggles or shield, and good hand and respiratory hygiene. You can purchase your own goggles outside of Rocmaura and bring them with you, or use the shield provided at the entrance to the home.
Those visiting residents who are positive or positive roommates, are required to wear full PPE.
At Rocmaura, this means mask, eye protection and a gown. Always check with the Nursing staff before entering a room.
You will be contacted should your loved one be on room isolation.
Activities in small consistent groups continue for the residents.
f you have multiple loved ones that you normally visit, we ask that you do not visit both, even if you are their only DSP. At this time, we ask that you choose and visit only one resident consistently. We are trying very hard to contain this outbreak and we cannot do it without your support!
Please also note that Hopewell and Terrace residents are not permitted to go for outings at this time. Please check with the RN manager on your court, to determine if they are able to keep any outside health care appointments.
The remaining courts, Garden and Trinity, are not on isolation and visitation is open.
We ask for your continued support and prayers that this remains so.
Please understand you are visiting at your own risk and it is your responsibility to keep our other vulnerable residents safe.
If you require information regarding DSP’s, please reach out to [email protected]
PLEASE LEAVE YOUR MASK ON AT ALL TIMES and do not visit if you are ill.
Thank you all for partnering with us through these ongoing challenges, you are all very appreciated!

We have implemented a new locking mechanism on the inside door at the Burpee Avenue entrance.
When residents wearing wanderguard bracelets are within 8 feet of the door, the RED button on the door, will remain locked. If they move closer, a bell alarm will go off. We ask your patience while the resident proceeds to move, or is encouraged by any person on the inside of the door, to be re-directed in moving.
When exiting the door, nothing changes.
If the alarm is set off from inside, a staff member will have to reset the alarm on the wall.
Please make sure the door closes behind you, so that residents who are not able to leave the building unaccompanied and remain safely in the building.

We are very happy to report that we will be able to open Terrace Court to normal resident activities and visitors tomorrow, Saturday October 1st.
Thank you everyone for your continued support and prayers and for partnering with us during these ongoing challenges. You are so appreciated!
As always, keep up your good hand hygiene practices, coming and going, don’t visit if you feel unwell. If you see an isolation sign on a door, please check with the nursing staff before entering.
Hope you are having a wonderful day.

We have a Covid-19 outbreak on Terrace Court. As a result, Terrace Court, along with Hopewell, are no longer open to regular visitors.
Only DSPs are permitted to enter with mask and eye goggles or shield with good hand and respiratory hygiene.
PLEASE LEAVE YOUR MASK ON AT ALL TIMES.
Those residents who are positive are isolating in their rooms and we are restricting all visitors to those rooms. You will be contacted should your loved one be on room isolation.
Activities in small consistent groups continue for the residents.
If you have multiple loved ones that you normally visit, we ask that you do not visit both even if you are their only DSP.
At this time, we ask that you choose and visit only one resident consistently. We are trying very hard to contain this outbreak and we cannot do it without your support!
Please also note that Hopewell and Terrace residents are not permitted to go for outings at this time.
The remaining courts, Garden and Trinity, are not on isolation and visitation is open. I ask for your continued support and prayers that this remains so. Thank you all for partnering with us through these ongoing challenges; you are all very appreciated!

We have 3 POCT positive residence on Hopewell Court.
Those residents who are positive are isolating in their room, while the remaining courts are not on isolation, but need to remain in their own bubble on the court. Activities in small consistent groups continues for the residents. A friendly reminder that only DSPs are allowed to visit on Hopewell and must wear masks, goggles and shields while following great hand and respiratory hygiene. If you have multiple loved ones that you normally visit, and one lives on Hopewell, we ask that you do not visit both even if you are their only DSP. At this time, we ask that you choose and only visit one resident consistently. We are trying very hard to contain this outbreak to Hopewell so we can go back to a regular way of life there again.
Please also note that Hopewell residents are not permitted to go for outings at this time.
Our other three courts are business as usual, and I ask for your continued support and prayers that this remains so. Thank you all for partnering with us through these ongoing challenges; you are all very appreciated!
Warmest regards, Christina Harvey

I am so pleased to announce, that with the help of each and every one of you, our Covid outbreak is declared over on Garden, and therefore the entire Home is Covid free. As of today, all courts are open and it is business as usual with visitors now able to access all courts, not just the DSPs. Masks and good hand hygiene are still required. Residents are free to leave their courts, and I am sure there are a few that will love being able to go for a walk around the courts, or even a drive if able. Once again, my deepest appreciation to the residents, families and staff for all the effort it takes to recover from an outbreak! Wishing many blessings to you all!

Hopewell Court is re-opening to all visitors. Final cleaning is completed.
Garden Court is still closed to general visitation. We welcome DSP’s to continue visiting in Garden.
Please wear a new mask and shield during your entire visit, and only visit your one person on Garden Court.
Watch for signs where you are not to enter, and check with the staff. We will update next week with any changes.
Garden and Trinity residents are not permitted to go for outings at this time until the outbreak is declared over; this is to protect our community and families.
Thank you all for partnering with us through these ongoing challenges; you are all very appreciated!

To date we have 5 residents on Hopewell, and 4 residents on Garden who are positive for Covid-19. We continue to monitor for signs/symptoms and test accordingly. I ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we try to limit the spread of this virus through the Home. Anyone who has a loved who is placed in isolation within their room will be notified asap. Thank you all for your support!

Friday August 12 2022
We have another outbreak on Garden Court. Two Residents have tested positive with POCT (to be confirmed by PCR) and two more are symptomatic.
Garden Court is now closed to visitors, except for DSPs.
Trinity Court remains open to ALL visitors, however, we ask that those going to Trinity refrain from touching anything or anyone on Garden Court.
Make sure that you thoroughly sanitize your hands immediately before entering Trinity.
You only require a mask if you are visiting someone on Trinity Court.
If you are a DSP visiting someone on Garden Court, goggles are required for a unit in an outbreak. There will be a limited amount of shields available, but you need to purchase goggles to continue to visit.
Any residents that are in isolation in their rooms are not open to having visitors unless they are palliative.
If your loved one becomes positive and needs to be isolated in their room, you will be notified.
The door to Garden Court by the Dining room is closed.
You will need to go down by the activity room and access both Garden and Trinity Courts through the door by the reception desk.
Terrace Court, at this time, remains open to all visitors as well.
Hopewell remains in outbreak and requires goggles or shield in addition to masks to enter.
We are trying to remain open for as long as we can while balancing the need for social interaction for our residents.
We regret that residents of Hopewell, Garden and Trinity court are not able to go for outings at present, until the outbreak is over.
For new families, please speak to Christina Harvey about DSP designation at 506-719-9007 or email at [email protected]
We encourage everyone to continue to be mindful of any symptoms, even if they are minor. Do not visit if you are ill.
Please remain home if you are symptomatic and test for Covid.

Over the weekend we confirmed a positive Covid case via PCR on Hopewell, and last night, again on Hopewell, we had a resident test positive on POCT, and another became symptomatic. We have sent both PCRs to lab. In light of this second positive resident, we will be closing the Hopewell Court to visitors and the court will need to stay a closed unit.
DSPs are permitted with strict adherence to PPE use. Gowns are not necessary for DSPs. Those on isolation in their rooms will not have visitors unless they are palliative. Please note that the other courts are remaining open.
Staff have to wear full PPE in the residents’ rooms that are on isolation, but mask, googles and shield will be used on the rest of the Hopewell Court. The rest of the floor will not be in isolation, but will receive trays for meals as dining together is a high risk event . We will be attempting to cohort staff, but proper use of PPE and hand hygiene is key if we are not able . Staff and DSPs must be diligent to follow infection prevention measures. We will continue to have activities in small consistent groups on the court to assist with the residents’ well being. As always, if you are unwell, remain at home and get tested. We appreciate your help in keeping our residents well!

Thursday August 4th, 2022
The prevalence of Covid-19 in our province is increasing. Today we identified a Resident on Hopewell court who is symptomatic and is Point of Care positive. We are awaiting PCR results.
Throughout the home, we are monitoring all residents and staff for symptoms.
It is essential that you do not visit if you are ill or have been exposed to Covid-19, especially if you were not protected by PPE. It is still important to wear a mask in public to protect yourselves and others.
Direction from Public Health has evolved since we began this journey with Covid-19, and as such, you will see our protocols are still protective but are not as widely encompassing. This is because of the vaccination of residents and staff, previous exposures, quality of life, and the endemic nature of Covid now. Scientists and Medical professionals are seeing its evolution in a similar manner as influenza; it is still serious, and we must use protective measures but they may not have to be as severe as earlier in the pandemic.
As more positive cases appear, we will put those people on isolation. You will be notified by the RN or Nursing Unit Clerk of your loved one’s court in as timely a manner as possible. We do ask for patience; we are kicking into gear and are doing our best under trying circumstances.
We do not expect to have to close the whole home and function as we did when Covid entered our building for the first time earlier this year. This may change, if it does, we will notify you.
Effective today:
We have been very thankful to all of you during the pandemic, especially for your understanding and support, as we try to protect residents and staff.

We have a positive Covid POCT on a resident this morning on Hopewell. It is important for you to be aware and to assess your personal risk to exposure. We are not closing to visitors at this time, but are encouraging everyone to keep up with good hand and respiratory hygiene. Please keep your masks on AT ALL TIMES when in the Home; this is mandatory, and failure to do so will result in you being asked to leave the Home. With your help, we are hopeful that we will be able to continue to have visitation, provided we do not see the virus spread. If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and get tested.

We are starting to see Covid numbers increase in the community. I am encouraging you to be vigilant for symptoms for you, your family members, and our residents. We know that we will be living with Covid, and our goal is for it to have as little disruption as possible.
Please remember to use great hand hygiene, proper mask wearing (if you touch your mask, wash/sanitize your hands), and distance when you can.
I encourage all of you to get boosted when possible. Our residents have had their fourth booster. We are fortunate that most of us are well protected from severe adverse effects!

We are so excited to see that summer has arrived and that we have been able to enjoy some of the activities of life once again!! As our residents start to go out with families to participate in events, I am so happy that most of our residents have received their 4th covid vaccine dose to give them optimal protection.
As you include your loved one/our resident in your festivities, please remember that covid and strangely, influenza, are still very prevalent in our and other communities, and we all need to be mindful of this. A few tips to help everyone stay safe:
😊 Remember how important hand washing is to reduce transmission. Key times are before meals, after going to the washroom, after blowing our nose, or after touching our eyes and face/mouth.
😊 If eating at a gathering, please consider getting your loved one a plate prepared in advance to reduce the risk of cross transmission. Have/use utensils to serve food from containers/platters…tongs are great for sandwiches!
😊 Try to keep your loved one out of crowded spaces and with a limited number of people.
I know there are many other things that you will think of to keep your loved one safe!
If your loved one is going to be in a large event with many people present and in close contact, please let us know on your return. This will allow us to keep a more diligent eye on your loved one for any symptoms that might arise. If you have any concerns regarding the outing, for instance, you find out that someone at the event tested positive for any transmittable disease such as covid or flu, please let us know so we can take measures to keep everyone safe!
Happy Summer and thank you for being such supportive members of the Rocmaura Family, we appreciate you!!

Now that we are open to visitors, the Parks Street entrance will be locked. Visitors can bring items to residents directly. No need to leave items at Parks Street door anymore. It is nice to get back to a more normal existence. Let’s hope that summer brings a dip in COVID in the community so that we may continue with normal life at Rocmaura, with our exceptions of course, but more normal than it has been. Take care and enjoy the lovely weather.

I am writing today to notify everyone that we are not able to have latex products in the home due to a serious health concern. This would include balloons (except mylar balloons), rubber toys, rubber balls, and latex-based elastics.
In addition, please keep in mind that we are a scent free environment, so no perfumes or scented products including heavily scented flowers and poinsettias, as they can seriously harm those with environmental allergies. We thank you for your thoughtfulness surrounding these issues of concern.

Please keep those prayers coming… it looks like we are getting to the end of our outbreak.
Effective tomorrow, shields and gowns will not be required. Masks are still required at all times.
Effective Sunday (Mothers Day), all visitors may return (families, friends, and DSPs) from 10:30am to 8:30pm.
All visitors must wear a mask at all times and must wash their hands upon entry and exit in the washrooms beside the living room (across from the Foundation office). This is very important, as Norwalk is still circulating in the community, and we don’t want to risk the residents becoming ill again.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and others out there who act as moms to others. You are appreciated and respected for your role in the lives of your children and others.

I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine after such a rainy weekend. Unfortunately, we had a new case of Norwalk in a resident on the weekend. Norwalk is still present in our home, however, our number continues to decrease. Today we have 1 Resident and 2 Employees exhibiting symptoms.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful messages and prayers and also to DSPs who are coming in to assist with meals. To clarify, DPSs can alternate as long as only 1 DSP comes in at a time.
In order for the outbreak to be declared over we need 7 days to pass from the onset date of the last Resident. Today we had another Resident present with symptoms so May 5th would be Day 7. The Medical Officer of Health will guide us on the date the outbreak will be declared over.
A reminder that Norwalk is very infectious and it is important to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (sing happy birthday). If you have had Norwalk symptoms (vomiting and/or diarrhea) yourself you cannot visit for 48 hours AFTER your last symptom. You may feel better, however, are still very infectious.

Thank you to everyone for the love and support that you continuously give when it is most needed!
In order for the Norwalk outbreak to be declared over there needs to be 48 hours after the LAST symptom from the LAST Resident . Unfortunately we do not have an answer on when that may be. Thankfully numbers are slowing down and we are hopeful that we can see light and the end of the tunnel.
There were 92 Residents who had symptoms since April 10th and currently 33 Residents are still presenting with symptoms and infectious.
There were 50 Employees who had symptoms since April 10th and currently 14 employees remain off work as they have not reached 48 hours since their last symptom.
A reminder to frequently wash your hands with soap and water, and to stay home for 48 hours after your last symptom as you are still infectious!

I hope that all of you had a nice Easter. Unfortunately, many of the residents and staff of Rocmaura did not, due to the Norwalk outbreak. As you can imagine, the symptoms of Norwalk (diarrhea and vomiting) are hard on the residents and the staff who are caring for them. This takes the staff away from being able to communicate with you as they normally would because they are busy caring for residents. Rest assured if your loved one is seriously ill, we will be in touch.
Thank you for your understanding and the kindnesses many of you have shown over the last while.
Norwalk is circulating in the community; many people do not know they are ill until symptoms start. It is important to wash your hands with soap and water frequently (hand sanitizer will not kill Norwalk) and avoid touching your face. If you become ill, stay in isolation until 48 hours after your last symptom (you will still be infectious for 48 hours after your last symptom) so that you do not make others ill.

April 14, 2022
The Norwalk outbreak is continuing. Each day more people are becoming ill but luckily, the symptoms in residents are tending to only last one day. Still not nice though. A number of staff are also affected.
We are hoping that, with the measures in place to stop the spread of infection, this will be over soon. Norwalk is highly infectious and as such, is spread so easily. Hand washing after touching surfaces and providing care and services is essential to limiting spread. We have increased surface cleaning and we are using bleach-based products, as those are the ones that kill Norwalk virus.
Hopefully, this will be behind us soon and we can get back to normal again. We are so thankful to have had that short period where the house was alive again, as it was before Covid disrupted the world. Lets all pray this comes soon.
I wish you all a happy Easter and peace and contentment for you and your loved ones.

An outbreak of Norovirus declared Sunday; GI infection (vomiting and diarrhea).
Wednesday April 6th
Spring is in the air! The change is palpable and there are changes coming to Rocmaura too.
Effective Thursday April 7 WE ARE RE-OPENING!
Please keep in mind that if the situation changes in the community, or if government or Public Health issue new directives for Nursing Homes, changes may be necessary. We will keep you updated.
These changes may seem like a big step for some of you; we understand that and feel it too. These are all approved changes from Government/Public Health. We will monitor closely to see how things go and will make any changes necessary.
Thank you for all your support and kindnesses during the last two years. It has been a tough time for everyone. We hope that these changes today can bring the residents more joy and more normalcy in life.

Covid-19 has not gone anywhere; I am sure you know some or many people who have become ill. It is all around us and the 6th wave is well underway. So while governments are leaving the personal management of risk to each of us, Rocmaura is not as we must protect the vulnerable among us and our staff.
Please carefully assess your risk and take steps to be safe:

It was wonderful to get the “all clear” from Public Health yesterday! It was a long stretch of restrictions but now we will be able to go back to a more normal way of being. However, we still need to keep some restrictions in place.
Another virus is coming our way. Norovirus is in the province and in our community. Norovirus is a gastrointestinal virus that causes diarrhea and vomiting. If you are ill, do not visit/come to work until 48 hours after your symptoms have stopped. Norovirus would be very hard on the residents, as they are so frail and vulnerable. We certainly don’t want them to become ill.
It is lovely to see the DSPs in and the residents all around the house! Life is getting back to normal and we are so thankful for the efforts of everyone.

Thursday March 17, 2022 Update
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Our province has transitioned to greatly reduced restrictions with respect to Covid-19. Many of our own processes for handling testing, isolation, and positive cases are changing too. We will let you know if any of that affects you, as we experience the changes.
What changes or doesn’t change for us:
Thank you to everyone! You have gone above and beyond to fulfill your roles, whether it be as a staff person or as a family or support person. We are so thankful to everyone. Your kindness and dedication to the residents cannot be expressed in words.
Sheana Mohra RNBN MHA - Executive Director

Shirley Fraser our Director of Nursing just reported that, “Currently we have 20 Residents who are positive in Trinity, and that number will decrease each day when they complete their isolation period. The continuous team work to ensure they are healthy and happy each day is amazing!! The additional nursing and EVS support from Social Development will continue for a few more days which is so greatly appreciated”.
We are on a good road, and I hope we can continue toward getting closer to declaring our outbreak over. However, for this to occur, we will need 10 days without a new staff or resident case. This may be difficult considering the lessening of restrictions that has occurred today and the prevalence of Omicron in our communities. To protect the residents and staff of Rocmaura, please do as Dr. Russell asks and assess your risk of infection and transmission of Covid-19 before removing your masks or going to places where there are crowds or people that are likely not wearing masks. Those are the ways Covid-19 is passed along and all of us are with vulnerable people here at Rocmaura; we must do our best to protect them.
We will be in touch later this week to bring you more information on the things that will change for us and those that will not, due to our obligation to protect residents and staff. Take care and stay safe!
Sheana Mohra RNBN MHA -Executive Director Rocmaura Inc.
Friday March 11, 2022
On March 14th, the restrictions related to Covid-19 will be lifted in our province. This is both an exciting time and a time of more uncertainty; it all depends upon the responsibilities and vulnerabilities you experience. For those who are not in a vulnerable population or responsible for those people, it is a time to go back to normal life. For those of us who are vulnerable or responsible for vulnerable people, there are still many unknowns, and many of the changes for the public may not come into play for us.
Today we expect to receive more information from government on how the changes on March 14th will apply to vulnerable settings. We will analyse what these changes mean and plan for how we can provide a balance between safety and normalcy. We have an obligation at law to provide a safe home and safe employment situation, but we must balance that with the happiness of residents. As always, we will relate these changes to you as soon as we understand them.
I am sure you are all eager to be able to come to Rocmaura like we did “in the good old days”, as they say. We all want that, but we don’t know when we will be able to rest easy that Covid-19 and its emerging variants will not pose a significant risk to the residents and staff. As a home for the most vulnerable in our society, we must be careful and thoughtful in how we consider the scientific evidence for lessening restrictions. For example, we know for a certainty today that masking will continue and that we will not drop our masks in the presence of residents; this will not change for a while. The other considerations, we must analyse carefully.
We remain in outbreak status, with almost all Trinity residents testing positive for Covid-19. Due to their conditions, we expected that this would occur, as there is no way to isolate them in their rooms without chemical or physical restraints, which are not acceptable or safe. They are not feeling well, but their symptoms are not severe, thank goodness.
We hope to have all this behind us in the coming days and will communicate this with you as soon as we know.
Take care, stay safe, and thank you for your thoughtfulness and kindness,
Sheana Mohra RNBN MHA -Executive Director

GREAT NEWS!!! The PCR results for our resident on Terrace Court came back and he is negative, therefore Terrace Court can reopen.

We now have 1 new resident on Terrace Court who has tested positive for Covid. Thankfully they are feeling well with no symptoms. No other residents are positive at this point; we will continue to monitor and test every 5 days. Visitation on Terrace Court will be on hold for now and we will open to visitors as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your continuous support.

Unfortunately, we have just found our first Covid positive resident on Trinity court. No other residents are positive at this point; we will continue to monitor and test every 5 days. We expect more residents will become positive, fortunately symptoms have been mild throughout the outbreak, and we expect that to be the case for those who call Trinity home.
We have put modified outbreak measures in place in Trinity:
In the rest of the house, things are very much back to normal. However, we continue to do POC tests every 5 days. If positive cases pop up, those residents will be placed on isolation precautions.
We are constantly assessing protocols and ensuring compliance with protocols from Public Health and Social Development.
Stay tuned for any changes that may occur.

Dear DSPs, families, and staff,
Unfortunately, our outbreak is not over yet. We have had another positive case in employees, but we can still open to having DSPs back in the house again. If the situation changes, this may need to change as well. But for now, you are welcome to come to visit. Only one DSP per resident for this week, then we will reassess.
Be aware that there is always a possibility of Covid infection, as the virus is all around us, in the community and possibly at Rocmaura. Please enter at your own risk and only visit your loved one.

Great news to pass along. As of today, Thursday, there are no residents on isolation.
We have moved to Strained capacity, down from Critical Capacity, so some of our protocols change as a result.
Below are the protocols you will follow in this stage.
Protocols for DSPs, as of Monday, if the outbreak is declared over:
We need to do another round of Point of Care testing on three courts tomorrow; we are praying they remain negative.
If all goes well, no residents or staff pop up as positive, we will be able to declare our outbreak over as of Sunday. The Medical Officer of Health must make this declaration.
After that, we can welcome DSPs back to Rocmaura in a safe manner on Monday. Point of Care testing is a big consideration and we have limited supplies, so for the week from February 28-March 7th only one DSP per resident is permitted so we don’t deplete our supplies. We will reassess after that week.
Regular hours as of February 28 from 10:30-8pm every day.
Please do your POCtest at the station set up as you enter the home.
We look forward to the DSPs being here, they have been greatly missed by everyone.
The restrictions for nursing homes have not changed with the move to Level 1. We do not anticipate great changes for us when all restrictions are removed in March, but we are not aware of all the province’s plans for us yet. We will keep you informed.
Take care, stay safe, and a sincere thanks for all your support during this most difficult time.
An especially heartfelt thanks to the staff who gave their all to ensure loving care and services were provided to the residents. They are a wonderful group of people!

Omicron is still all around us, despite the lessening of restrictions coming on Friday. Please be safe by wearing your mask, practicing hand hygiene, social distancing, and limiting your contacts.
Here at Rocmaura, things are stabilizing. We have only 13 active cases, at the moment. We continue to do point of care tests on the residents who have not been positive every 5 days to find any other infections. Once we have a stretch of days without new cases, Public Health will be able to declare this over. It has been a long month; we are starting to see the light.
Over the course of the outbreak, 81 of 148 residents were positive at one point or another. Many staff were out and they are exhausted from doing their best to provide loving care and services to the residents. We owe a debt of gratitude to everyone of them.
We have discussed having more DSPs come in and feel it is important to hold the line for a bit longer to get us through this last stage toward declaring the outbreak over. We are hoping that by continuing to do what we are doing; it will end soon. We are all praying and working hard toward this.
Many thanks to all of you for your support, kindnesses, and prayers during this difficult time.
We look forward to seeing more families and DSPs as soon as possible.

That was a doozy of a storm this weekend. I hope all of you are shovelled out and back to somewhat normal life.
We have entered our third week of this outbreak. Luckily, the residents have not had severe symptoms so far. A significant number of the staff have had illness and they are truly exhausted. They have been working so hard and giving their all to ensure the residents are comfortable.
We are at point where we had to access outside help with staffing and we are still seeking more people who are willing to provide basic care and feeding for residents. As of tomorrow, we invite DSPs (one consistent designated DSP per resident) to come in to assist with basic care and/or feeding of their loved one. If you can perform these tasks, you are welcome to start coming as of 10:30am tomorrow.
Please read this carefully:
You must arrive at 10:30 or at 4:30 Tuesday to Friday to receive training. We cannot accommodate any other training times due to staffing.
You cannot come in until you receive this training. You must be shown how to put on PPE and most importantly, how to take it off, so you don’t contaminate yourself.

It has been a hectic couple of weeks since the declaration of our outbreak on January 14th. Staff have been working so hard and everyone appreciates them so much. They go above and beyond for the residents and their coworkers.
Today we completed Point of Care testing on Hopewell court and identified our first cases on that court. The affected residents’ families have been called and staff are practicing Covid isolation with those affected residents. They are doing a great job and the residents have only mild symptoms; the benefit of vaccination to be sure! We are grateful.
We will keep you updated. Take care and stay safe,

Wonderful news!!!! After meeting with Public Health and Social Development we were able to lift covid isolation on all the residents who tested negative on Terrace court. Staff are thrilled and so are residents. Everyone will still need to remain on their courts, but this is a big start toward a more normal life.
Only residents who have tested positive will remain on isolation, until 10 days have passed.
Once those days have passed, they will gradually be removed from isolation.
There are red signs on their doors which indicates that they need to remain on covid isolation. Anyone with a yellow sign was removed from isolation.
For now, all residents of Rocmaura will be on a court rotation of Point of Care tests every 5 days to catch any positives that may pop up. If positive results are found the affected resident and their room mate will be covid isolated for 10 days. Family members of these residents will be contacted if this occurs.
This will come for Garden later; We will let you know.
For now, we will keep on with yellows, minion goggles, and masks in non-covid isolation rooms and throughout the house.
Thank you all for everything you have done to get through this tough time. We still have some challenges ahead with Omicron, but it appears it will be a bit more manageable. Thanks to the booster vaccinations the residents received, they have not had any severe symptoms and many have been asymptomatic.

Terrace court is settling into its covid isolation rhythm, and we couldn’t say enough about the wonderful staff who have been working away with a smile on their faces and loving care for the residents and each other. No other residents have shown symptoms, but we will be on the watch and will test anyone who does display symptoms in the coming days.
We just received a positive PCR result on Garden court. The resident does not have symptoms and covid isolation has been put in place. The staff are doing a lovely job of making the best of the situation and they, too, are a great group of people.
We will monitor the situation closely and inform you of any updates.
We are very thankful to everyone for doing all you do each day and for the families’ support. We will continue praying that the residents and staff do not have any severe symptoms and that the outbreak ends soon.

We have a few more residents with mild symptoms and positive POCtests on Terrace court. Those residents have had PCR swabs and we have put the entire court on Covid isolation. The staff are doing an amazing job with PPE and in providing loving care under difficult circumstances. Everyone is pitching in and helping where they can, and we are all very thankful for their wonderful work and ability to make the best of the situation. They are fantastic people. Thank you all for your support and the wonderful comments you are sending along on Social media and in response to our messages. You boost everyone’s spirits.

We are working very hard to ensure that the residents are well cared for and safe. Staff have been absolutely amazing; we are very thankful for them and for Social Development. Social Development sends us all the personal protective equipment (ppe) and supplies we require, and they have sent a covid cleaning crew as well. This relieves some of the pressure.
To date, the testing of residents on January 14thand 15th, in Terrace and the other end of Garden and Hopewell, have shown only one PCR positive resident. We do have a few residents with symptoms; they are being retested.
Direction for testing has changed, and we are very pleased about this, it means that since the residents of three courts have already had at least an initial round of PCR tests (some have had several rounds), they will not need to be tested again unless they start to show symptoms.
Isolation will continue for Terrace court residents only.
However, residents in Hopewell and Garden should not be gathering, nor leaving their courts. Due to some of their conditions, we are directed to do our best but to not upset them.
We will keep you informed as we know more information.
Thank you for all your support and kind words. It means the world to everyone.

December 30, 2021
Hello everyone,
I hope that all of you had a safe and healthy Christmas. I know it was difficult not spending it with your loved one, but it was a necessary measure to protect them from illness. We have felt awful about this but with the numbers continuing to rise, we feel it was the right decision for the level of risk we are seeing. The reason this is important is that we need to limit the amount of people in contact with the home since Covid is so prevalent in the community and we would not have the ability to monitor and advise the sheer number of people who may have exposures and need advice on what to do. As it is, managers have worked all through the holidays to protect the home. Covid is certainly all around us and we cannot thank you enough for your kindness and patience. I pray that this settles soon.
In the last few weeks, we have seen an increase in the community that has been beyond anything we have seen before in this pandemic. As a result of that, we have some staff who have had exposures, and I am sure that many of you know someone who has been exposed or is Covid positive. We are taking every measure recommended by Public Health to analyse each exposure situation carefully and to implement recommended measures. As a result, many staff have been off duty until they have a negative PCR. All staff are doing rapid Point of Care tests before every shift, and everyone is wearing their masks and social distancing, as much as possible.
This is the Public Health Guidance we are following for staff.
“Each case is evaluated depending on circumstances; therefore, each person may be given different directions.
If you or a household family member have a Positive POC test you must do the following:
If you are at home, notify the workplace right away, and we will advise you from there.
If you are at work, notify the supervisor or manager (if during off hours notify the Manager on Call) – you may be instructed to contact one of the nursing stations for an RN to complete a PCR test and you will be sent home until results are available or you may be asked to call Public Health to arrange a PCR test. If you worked within the last 48 hours everyone will don full PPE until negative results are obtained.”
We are doing our own PCR testing of staff, to either rule out infection and get them back to work or to keep them off work, in the event we find a positive case. This decreases the wait time for results and helps to alleviate the pressure on the health care system with its backlog of test requests.
We will keep you updated, and we thank you for your understanding and care for the residents and staff. Your kindness touches our hearts.
As we heard frequently at the beginning of the pandemic, “We are all in this together”. It still holds true.
Happy and Safe New Year!

With the increasing case counts in our province (237 cases today) and our area, we have no choice but to close to visiting until the situation improves.
My heart breaks, as I write this to you.
We promise you that this decision was not made lightly. We know this is a special time of year, but it is also something that can be celebrated in our hearts and in person, later, when things are safer. The birth of Christ means a lot to many of us, God is in our hearts each day and the day we celebrate doesn’t have to be the 25th.
Staff will be their usual wonderful selves, and will ensure your resident is loved, well cared for and is happy.
Gifts can still be left at the Parks Street entrance.
Please pass this message along to those who should be aware.
IMPORTANT: Please keep your contacts at a very low level, practice good hand hygiene, wear a mask properly, and follow all public health guidance. It is important that we not attend parties or gatherings, especially where there may be unvaccinated individuals.
Vaccinated individuals can spread covid too, so be careful about who you are with, you wouldn’t want to make a vulnerable person ill.
We are in a time that is unlike any other in the pandemic and it will take all of us to get this stabilized.
Thank you for the kindnesses you show everyone every day.

Hello everyone,
The cases are rising in our province and all around us. In our area, a significant number of close contacts are occurring and that is very concerning to us. The safety of residents and staff are our priority; decisions to ensure their safety are not made lightly because we know those decisions impact you.
However, considering the current situation in our area, the number of close contacts that are being disclosed, and people being PCR tested, as a result, we feel we must assess our situation more closely.
Tonight, we need to close to visiting after the last DSP visitor leaves (approximately 8:30pm). We will close for Wednesday and Thursday and reassess the situation to determine our risk level. Once we have a clear plan to provide visiting safely, we will share it with you.
It is a difficult decision to close to visiting, even for these two days, because we know it is important to people, but with the responsibility of your loved ones and the staff to think of, we must be very careful.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hello everyone,
We have done our best, with the resources we have, to increase visiting from now to the new year. We know it is important for you to be together and we are doing our best to ensure this can be done as safely as possible. With the increase in cases, and the uncertainty around the new variant, Omicron, we must be as careful as possible, so we will need to keep some extra safety practices in place for a little while. We will remove them as soon as possible after a careful risk assessment.
Please see what we have come up with for visiting before and over the holidays.
For today, Friday, December 17 – DSP visiting 10-5pm. If you stay past 5pm, you will need to use the Blue button to exit. No visiting on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, Dec 19 & 20.
**Effective immediately, DSPs do not have to wear gowns and goggles unless we are testing a resident. Please keep an eye out for the sign to be unrolled each time you visit, this will indicate someone is being tested or that we need everyone in PPE for another reason.
Scheduled Visits Days and Times for Non - DSP

Hello everyone, As you are aware, we are seeing increases in cases in the province and our region.
To protect residents and staff, effective Monday December 13th, only DSPs will be able to visit, Rocmaura staff will screen and complete the POC test with DSPs, and residents will not be able to go outside Rocmaura.
For this week, DSP visiting hours will start at 10am and end at 5pm. We are trying to find resources to stay open longer and will update you as soon as we have a solution. We hope the cases start to go down soon and pray these new measures are for a short period.
Thank you for your support and caring for the residents and staff of Rocmaura.

Good Afternoon,Due to the increased number of cases in our region it has been advised by Public Health that effective immediately DSPs are to wear full PPE during visits with their loved ones. Point of Care Testing (POCT) is also to continue prior to all visits.
In addition, for safety, Residents can go to medical appointments only and this will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
We are thankful that visits with DSPs can continue and thank you for your full support in keeping everyone safe!

Tuesday November 9, 2021 Update
Hello everyone,
Government has announced that DSP visitors are now eligible to receive a third dose of Covid-19 vaccine (most often called a booster).
Please see an excerpt from the message the province sent out today.
“All Healthcare workers (employees from an RHA, EMP, ANB, and designated supports of residents of long term care facilities, including students who are in these facilities) that have an interval of at least six months since receiving their second dose are eligible to receive a booster “third” dose of a COVID Vaccine. Booster doses are available at RHA clinics and local pharmacies. Proof of vaccination must be brought to the appointment.”
Additionally, we are hoping the circuit breaker will end for our region by the end of the week but we don’t know if that will be possible yet. We are working on a method to have all DSPs able to visit and have a Point of Care test before entering. As you can imagine, this presents a big challenge in resourcing, which is mostly time for our staff to facilitate this process, in addition to their regular duties. Rest assured that we will open up to DSPs as soon as we have this figured out and we will communicate this to you as soon as we have a plan.
Take care and stay safe,

Friday, October 29, 2021 Update
Considering the circuit breaker that was announced yesterday and the rise in cases and spread in our region, we will be closing to DSP visiting after this evening, for a period of at least a week. This is a difficult decision but we want to be sure that we are protecting the residents and staff.
We will watch the situation in our region closely to determine if we feel it is safe to reinstate DSP visiting at the end of next week.
Thank you all for your support and understanding. It makes a world of difference to know that when we make these difficult decisions, you understand that they are not made lightly and that they are made with safety at the top of our minds.
Take care and stay safe,

October 4, 2021 Update
Due to the rising cases of Covid-19 in our region it has been decided to close to general visitors for this week.
General visitations scheduled for Tuesday, October 5th and Wednesday, October 6th will be cancelled.
DSPs will still be able to visit during the regular hours of 10:00am-8:30pm. Thank you for supporting this decision to assist with protecting your loved ones. Have a safe week,

July 30th, 2021 Update
We have received some guidance from Social Development on what “Going Green” means to us. We expected to lag behind the reopening by two weeks but that direction has changed for us, so we will be opened on Saturday morning with the rest of NB.
However, to keep residents and staff safe from potential exposures and illness, we will continue wearing masks for a few more weeks. As you may have heard in the media lately, businesses and companies are analysing their risk profile and making decisions for the best of their patrons and staff. We are doing the same with the residents and staff. We promise to watch the trends and to revisit this decision shortly, as we watch the effects of reopening.
For all visitors, regarding entering Rocmaura:
· Please enter through the Burpee door anytime from 10am to 8:30pm. The swipe system will be retimed to allow you access without using a swipe during those hours.
· You will not need to wear a gown but you must wear a mask, purell frequently.
· Please sign in on the book at the table beside the temperature scanner.
· As part of your self screening, you must continue to ask yourself the questions at the door and get your temperature taken to unlock the inside door.
For staff, you will also self screen and have your temperature taken and wear a mask.
Ambulance attendants can be directed to the Parks street door where the staff can let them in.
Everyone is encouraged to get vaccinated to protect yourselves and the residents and we thank you for helping to keep everyone safe.
Take care, stay safe, and enjoy our transition to normalcy.

June 16th, 2021 Update
With the move to the second “Green” stage of reopening, you are most likely wondering how that affects us at Rocmaura.
For now, we are status quo, as we have not received any direction from Public Health with respect to what this means for the Residents particularly.
A few things we can implement right away are:
· Residents can go for drives with their DSPs, as long as the DSP’s are vaccinated and provide proof of at least their 1st dose and it being at least 14 days ago. We will need two days notice to organize this for you so please be in touch with Christina. All public health directives must be followed.
· All Residents can have one more DSP. POA’s will need to fill out the attached form to designate the additional DSP. Once we receive the completed form, we will get in touch to provide the necessary safety education and contract.
· Food can be brought in for Residents consumption during your visit but visitors/DSPs are still not permitted to eat or drink with Residents.
It remains very important that we continue to wear masks, never drop masks, hand sanitize, and social distance.
We do expect to see a rise in cases in the province as soon as things open up. So adhering to these tried and true practices will protect you, as will getting vaccinated!
Take care and stay safe,

Warm Regards, Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC

- Residents, staff, visitors, and volunteers are encouraged to remain up to date on Covid-19 vaccinations and boosters.
- Staff, volunteers, and visitors should stay at home if sick.
- Staff, volunteers and visitors who have a questionable symptom due to allergies, etc. but do not feel sick are asked to please wear a mask, and use our enhanced workplace precautions until sure they are not contagious- we cannot be too careful.
- Monitor residents for Covid-19 symptoms and promptly report symptoms so Isolation Precautions can be initiated.
- Follow our policy to POCT test at onset of covid/cold/flu like symptoms, 24 hours after onset if negative, and again in 24 hours if the second test is negative.
- Practice good respiratory etiquette-always important!
- Practice good hand hygiene- so very important in preventing infection. Remember the 4 moments of hand hygiene and point of care risk assessment. (see attached)
- Proper cleaning and disinfection of the home’s environment, especially high touch surfaces.
Masks will continue to be readily available for those residents, staff and visitors who prefer to continue to use a mask, or in the case of an outbreak or initiation of Additional Precautions for symptomatic individuals.
We are so very excited to make this transition! Thank you all for your efforts that have brought us to this point!
With warm regards and big smiles,
Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC, Director of Nursing

Monday March 27, 2023

Friday February 17, 2023

Thank you for your continuing support and understanding.
Stay safe.

Click on the link to test out how our new plan to use ‘raffle-box’ works! https://www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/rocmaura

From my Home to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed 2023! I look forward to another year of shared experiences, laughter and love!
Warm Regards,Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC

We are pleased to offer the option for our residents to go home over the Holidays if family wishes. There are a few things that we need to ensure so this can be done as fun and safely as possible:
- If your loved one is on a Court that has an outbreak, BUT is NOT positive and in room isolation, they can still go home with you, provided you understand and accept the risk it may present to your family.
- Please allow ample notice to the RN - a few days in advance would be great! This allows the RN to get medications ready, etc. so that your loved one is ready to go when you arrive.
- Plan in advance how you will decrease the risk to your loved one. Remember that they have been living in a masked environment where everyone in contact with them is attempting to reduce transmission of germs. Frequent hand washing/ sanitizing, sanitizing of frequently touched areas- door knobs, washroom, etc., good respiratory hygiene (coughing/sneezing into a kleenex, washing hands after blowing your nose, etc.) and asking those that are sick to not visit will help to keep your loved one well. If possible, please limit the number of people your loved one spends concentrated time with. Of course, we realize this is a time for family gathering, and we want you to be able to enjoy the Christmas Season together.
- If you are sick, or if there is illness in your home, please reschedule your plans to take your loved one home.
Merry Christmas and a Blessed 2023!

As many of you are already aware, we have an outbreak of Covid declared on Hopewell.
Those residents who are positive are isolating in their room, while the remaining court is not on isolation, but need to remain in their own bubble on the court. Activities in small consistent groups continues for the residents.
Only DSPs are allowed to visit on Hopewell and must wear masks, goggles and shields while following great hand and respiratory hygiene.
Please also note that residents are not permitted to go for outings at this time until the outbreak is declared over; this is to protect our community and families.
Our other three courts are business as usual, and I ask for your continued support and prayers that this remains so. Thank you all for partnering with us through these ongoing challenges; you are all very appreciated!

Monday August 8th 2022

- Residents being tested or who have tested positive are on isolation. This means no visiting until we can further assess whether there are more cases.
- Residents who are not on isolation can have visitors.
- Everyone who enters Rocmaura must hand sanitize on a regular basis and must wear a mask at all times; no exceptions. Masks must cover the mouth and nose.
- Staff will move to daily Point of Care testing on each shift.
- All residents and staff are being monitored for Covid symptoms.

You are no longer required to take your temperature to enter our building. However, please keep in mind the following:
- Postpone your visit if you are ill or not at your best, or have been in the company of anyone testing for Covid
- Wash your hands often, both before and after visiting
- You must sanitize your hands and put on a clean Rocmaura mask, grab from the middle of the box.
- The only exception, IF you are wearing a CLEAN (not worn before) N95 or KN95, you may keep these type on.
- Press the red button to open the door, AFTER putting on your mask 😊
- Food/gifts, coffee may be brought in for residents, but you CANNOT eat or drink with the resident during your visit
- Sign in and sign out please
- Be careful not to allow residents to leave with you, after you sign out
- Visiting hours are 10:30 am to 8:30 pm, after which time the door will be automatically locked
We thank you for your diligence in keeping everyone safe!

As of today, we have one resident and one staff member who are ill. This means that we will need to stay closed until at least May 7th. Let’s pray this ends soon.
Thank you all for your support and kindness.

- The Burpee Avenue Door will be open from 11:00am-1:00pm and 4:00pm-6:00pm. Be sure to be at the door before it is locked.
- Sign in and Out each time.
- Change into our surgical mask, apply a yellow gown and apply a face shield.
- Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds in the washroom on the 1st floor before going to your resident’s room. Wash your hands again before leaving.

Norwalk is still present in our home, however our numbers are decreasing.
We are at a point where we need help with meal time and are welcoming back 1 DSP who can assist their loved one with lunch and/or supper.

Monday April 11
An outbreak of Norovirus declared Sunday; GI infection (vomiting and diarrhea).
- We are certain this is Norwalk due to its prevalence in the community and the symptoms and spread we are seeing is highly infectious
- We have 8 cases on Garden and it is closed
- No other courts affected yet
- All residents are on their courts
- Dining room is closed
- Cleaning with bleach
- Hand hygiene is essential. Hand sanitizer does not kill Norwalk, hand washing is essential. It is Important to not touch face.
- No visitors
Wednesday April 6th
Spring is in the air! The change is palpable and there are changes coming to Rocmaura too.
Effective Thursday April 7 WE ARE RE-OPENING!
- General visitors are welcome! Everyone MUST WEAR A MASK - a Rocmaura provided mask or a N95 or KN95. No community masks except for young children who are too small to wear a medical mask.
- All visitors must enter and leave through the Burpee Entrance door. For anyone who may not know the entrance location, look for the name on the concrete canopy covering the door.
- Do not drop your mask at any time. Wear your mask properly, covering the nose and mouth at all times. (see the funny little pictures in the attachment for examples)
- Visitors DO NOT need to do a Point of Care test upon entry.
- All visitors MUST SIGN IN AND OUT using the book on the table just inside the Burpee entrance.
- DO NOT VISIT IF you are unwell, have been exposed to someone with Covid or Covid symptoms, or if you are a household or family contact of someone who has Covid.
- Doors will be open 10:30-8:00 pm every day. You will not need a swipe card to enter or leave during these hours.
- DSPs may keep their swipe cards for now. If we need to change our visiting protocols based on what is happening in the community, you may need it again. Keep it in a safe place.
- Please assess your risk; avoid large crowds, wear a mask, hand hygiene, and social distance to decrease your risk of spreading Covid-19.
- Staff will start Point of Care testing 3 times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays starting next week.

- Large groups and places where people are unmasked still pose a large risk of infection. Wear a mask and social distance, limit your participation (or wear a mask) according to the risk it may pose to you, your loved ones, or someone vulnerable, like the residents of Rocmaura.
- Masks are mandatory at Rocmaura. You may not lower your mask in the presence of another person. You must cover your nose and mouth at all times.
- Staff must wear Rocmaura provided masks.
- Visitors may wear a N95 or KN95 that they purchase or a Rocmaura provided mask.
Take care and stay safe,

It was wonderful to get the “all clear” from Public Health yesterday! It was a long stretch of restrictions but now we will be able to go back to a more normal way of being. However, we still need to keep some restrictions in place.
- Masks for all staff and visitors at all times. No dropping masks around anyone, especially the residents.
- Everyone who enters Rocmaura must be vaccinated.
- Point of Care testing daily for another two weeks for all visitors and staff.
- DSP visitors (up to three per resident) can come 7 days a week from 10:30-8pm using their swipe card. They must do a Point of Care test upon entry for at least the next two weeks.
- Residents may go out with their DSPs (overnight as well, but all precautions must be taken).
- Residents can have group activities and leave their courts, as they wish.
- The main dining room will re-open to pre covid seating as of Thursday.
- Staff will go back to their regular lunch/break rooms but must still socially distance.
Take care and stay safe,

Great news to pass along. As of today there are no residents on isolation and the outbreak has been declared over by Public Health.
Protocols for DSPs:
- Mask at all times. Never drop your mask around anyone when you are here. Very important, mask must be over nose and mouth.
- If you have been exposed to a household contact, please contact Christina Harvey for directions. [email protected]
- If you have tested positive on POCT, please contact Christina Harvey for directions. [email protected]
- You must do a Point of Care test as you enter the Home. You will see the station set up on the left as you come in the second set of doors.
- Do not visit if you have cold symptoms, cannot smell or taste, or have a fever- get tested if this occurs.
- Hand hygiene is essential.
- Do not bring purses or bags with you.
- Regular hours are 10:30-8pm every day.

- Everyone will remain masked. No one can drop their mask around anyone. Eye protection is only required for specific circumstances but not in general. Please always have your eye protection with you in case it is needed.
- If you have symptoms do not visit (if you are a staff person, contact your manager)
- All staff, visitors, and DSPs must be vaccinated
- Point of care rapid testing must be done upon entry. If your result is positive, let us know (staff must notify their manager or RN and await directions)
- No visiting in Trinity until the outbreak is declared over.
- Residents can have up to three (3) DSP visitors who can visit anytime from 10:30am-8pm 7 days per week
- We encourage everyone to get a booster dose of vaccine
Thank you to everyone! You have gone above and beyond to fulfill your roles, whether it be as a staff person or as a family or support person. We are so thankful to everyone. Your kindness and dedication to the residents cannot be expressed in words.

Trinity Court remains closed to visitors and we will open as soon as it is safe to do so.

Tuesday March 1st, 2022
Unfortunately, we have just found our first Covid positive resident on Trinity court. No other residents are positive at this point; we will continue to monitor and test every 5 days. We expect more residents will become positive, fortunately symptoms have been mild throughout the outbreak, and we expect that to be the case for those who call Trinity home.
We have put modified outbreak measures in place in Trinity:
- Residents cannot be isolated in their rooms because they do not remember to stay there or do not understand; Forcing them to stay in their rooms is not emotionally or physically possible. Therefore, we must be more flexible with these residents.
- No visiting, as the risk of transmission is high since the residents cannot be isolated in their rooms.
- Everyone who enters Trinity court must be in full Covid PPE.
- Donning and doffing stations are at the entrance to Trinity from Garden court and in the Cozy Kitchen.
- Staff wear Covid PPE constantly while in Trinity; change PPE when caring for a resident with a positive test, before eating, drinking, and going to the Bathroom, and when leaving the court.
- We are not able to have donning and doffing stations in the hallways or resident rooms, as the residents would be attracted to them and that may lead to transmission.
- Staff will continue to eat in distanced, staggered, small numbers in the same areas they have been using.
- Replenishing carts will be held on Garden court. The donning carts will be checked frequently through the week but on weekends and nights, staff may need to replenish supplies from these carts.
- Garbage and soiled laundry carts will be kept in the dirty utility room. Pick ups will be increased to accommodate the changes in volume of both.
- Goggles are required for Trinity court. Or safety glasses with a shield.

- No more gowns (yellow, blue, white), no more goggles or face shields.
- You must continue to wear Uvex or regular glasses type goggles (if you don’t have them, please go to Kents or a hardware store to purchase a pair). The purpose is to protect droplets from getting into your eyes. If you do not have goggles, you cannot enter.
- Mask at all times. Never drop your mask around anyone when you are here. Very important, mask must be over nose and mouth.
- If you have been exposed to a household contact, please contact Christina Harvey for directions. [email protected]
- If you have tested positive, please contact Christina Harvey for directions. [email protected]
- From February 28 to March 7th, you will be able to visit 7 days a week from 10:30-8pm; we will reassess this after March 7th .
- One DSP visitor per resident please.

- You may come from 10:30-1:30pm and 4:30-6:30pm every day, all courts.
- You must be able to provide basic care and/or feed your loved one. Unfortunately, we cannot have visiting at this time. So, if you cannot perform these tasks, you will need to wait to come visit until we open for that purpose.
- If you will be with a Covid negative resident; you will wear the following PPE- a yellow gown, goggles, shield, and mask.
- If you will be with a Covid Positive resident; you will wear a white gown, mask, goggles, shield, and gloves.
- Goggles can be found at the Burpee entrance. Please sign for them and when the outbreak is over, please bring them back to us. We only have a limited supply, and we must save them for staff.
- You must never drop your mask.

Friday December 17, 2021

Monday December 13, 2021

- Staff Testing- Rapid antigen POCT testing will be the first choice for staff members.
• If initial POCT result is negative and symptoms persist or worsen, retest with POCT in 24 hours.
• If second test is still negative, re-test in another 48 hours.
• If third test remains negative and symptoms persist, where possible, continue taking enhanced precautions until feeling better (i.e., until 24-hour fever free, and 48 hours free of vomiting or diarrhea, and all symptoms improving).
If clinically indicated, staff members can access PCR testing through consultation with their medical care provider. Those who do not have or are unable to contact their medical care provider may access testing through eVisitNB, Telecare 811, or other outpatient services. PCR testing will be done at the location indicated by their Regional Health Authority (RHA).
Employees/volunteers must immediately notify Rocmaura if they receive a positive POCT test result.
- Resident Testing – Rapid antigen (POCT) testing should be the first choice when testing symptomatic residents. Residents may also be tested using POCT, Abbott ID Now, or PCR, at the Dr’s discretion, by following our usual process.
