Hello Everyone As Christmas is fast approaching, we wanted to remind you of our procedures for labelling clothing, and in particular, new items that you purchase for your resident for Christmas. Please note this is a change from last year. If you prepare (buy, size, label) early, there should not be a delay at or after Christmas.
Suggested materials that can generally tolerate our Rocmaura Laundry process: 100% polyester 65% polyester 35% cotton blends 50% polyester 50% cotton blends 100% acrylic Thank you for your cooperation and have a good evening. Rocmaura Management Team We are happy to report that we have changed the door locking time at the Main Burpee Entrance to 8 pm. This is effective immediately. You will be able to access the home prior to 8 pm, you may stay as long as you wish/as appropriate and please use the Blue Button to let yourself out when you leave. Just a reminder for our new families, the door is unlocked from 8 am – 8 pm every day. The Main Burpee Entrance is the only access to the building for families, please sign in and sign out. The Parks Street entrance is no long an entrance. We will remove some signage there as needed. Please be careful when exiting the building that residents do not leave with you. We appreciate your diligence in this regard. M. Theresa Mercer, BBA, CPA Director of Financial Services Tel 506-643-7062 Friday March 1, 2024 Resident Main Dining Room, 1st floor is off limits to all beginning March 1st until further notice due to the Sprinkler system upgrade/construction. No traveling through the dining room what so ever. The first floor staff lounge will remain accessible but only through the entrance at the far end of Garden court near room 166. Thank you for your attention to this matter, keeping both residents and staff safe during the construction. Stay Safe! Paula Breen Thursday, Feb 29, 2024 I am writing to you to update you on security at Rocmaura. Due to an undesirable person frequenting our property, we have increased security on the premises. You may see guards on duty and parking lot patrols when you visit, in addition to the restricted access of the Burpee Avenue door to 7pm daily. Please do not open/hold open the door for anyone you do not know. Please feel free to enter anytime before 7pm and stay as long as you and your loved one wish. Please share this email with anyone you know who visits regularly. Sheana Mohra RNBN MHA Executive Director Rocmaura Inc. Friday February 23, 2024 For those of you who like to accompany a resident to mass at Rocmaura, we are pleased to let you know that Fr. Doug McNeill will be here on the following dates to preside at mass: February 27 March 12 and 26 April 9 and 23 Please note that we will be changing the start time of mass to 1:30 pm on a trial basis and will let you know if there are any future changes. Also, dependent on the progress of the sprinkler replacement project, mass may be held in the Recreation Room rather than in the Dining Room. We appreciate your understanding while we work around these renovations! Please pass this news along to any family members or friends who would be interested. Jean Marie Dionne Director of Mission St. Joseph’s Hospital/Rocmaura Nursing Home 506-651-8841 [email protected] January 9, 2024 Please note that travel to and from Trinity & Garden Courts for the next couple of weeks must be via the dining room. Although a few offices are operational, the area from the Rehab office to the beginning of Garden Court by the Parks Street entrance, including all Recreation Dept and the Boardroom, is closed. Please follow Garden Court directions regarding masks and shields and we will update as soon as we possibly can when the influenza outbreak is declared over. December 8, 2023 The Recreation Department is preparing for Christmas and has been receiving inquiries about the gift giving process. On Christmas morning, each court ensures every resident has a gift to open. Christmas gifts can be dropped off in the Recreation Room Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. The Rec team will store and distribute them to the courts for Christmas Day. Please ensure you clearly label your bags/items with the Resident’s name and Court; sorry ‘To Mom from Sally’ doesn’t work LOL Information regarding labelling has been sent previously – ensure correct sizing and labelling prior to dropping off the wrapped gifts to the Rec department. For families preferring a gift exchange in person, we suggest leaving one gift for your loved one to open with the others. Holiday Meals for Residents: A reminder to advise staff as soon as you know/decide if your resident will be leaving Rocmaura for any period of time; this assists in medication management, meal planning and care needs. The noon meal on Christmas day will be a traditional turkey dinner with the fixings. New Years Eve will be Chinese food and New Years Day will be a ham dinner. We are unable to accommodate families for meals. Gift Suggestions: Suggestions for gifts may be on your resident’s door. Please do not bring live pointsettia’s in to the home, we have a staff member with a serious latex allergy. There are very pretty silk and other types available. No powder and no scents also. If you are wondering about something specific, please reach out to a team member on your resident’s court. Mass: On Tuesday December 12, there will be mass at 2pm. Also on December 22nd, Friday, at 2pm will be our Christmas mass. Covid 19 and Influenza Please wear a mask if you have not had both the current Covid vaccine and Influenza vaccine. Do not visit if you are ill or feeling under the weather. There is still Covid in our community and we really want our residents to enjoy the holiday season to the fullest, as healthy as possible. Wishing everyone a lovely holiday, a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. Theresa M. Theresa Mercer, BBA, CPA Acting Executive Director and Director of Financial Services December 1, 2023 We have a jam-packed holiday season of events planned and we look forward to sharing it with all our residents and you, their loved ones. Once we have a schedule for Mass we will share that too. A reminder on Christmas gifts, please make sure new items of clothing fit, and all gifts are labelled if needed, as early this month as possible. At Christmas there can be a backlog of labelling, so please try to do early. Anything electrical needs to be checked by maintenance dept before plugging in in the residents rooms. A reminder on mask wearing, PLEASE stay home if you are ill in any way, and wear a mask if you have not had both current vaccines – Covid & Influenza. You can always wear a mask if you prefer. Have a wonderful day we look forward to seeing you! Theresa Mercer, BBA, CPA Acting Executive Director and Director of Financial Services Tel 506-643-7062 November 30, 2023 This is a gentle reminder that pushpins and thumbtacks for bulletin boards cannot be used in the facility in areas where residents could have access. Please don’t use them in any public areas or the residents’ rooms. If you need a stapler, please see one of our staff, they would be glad to help you. Please share this email with any other visitors your resident may have, that might be inclined to bring something for the bulletin board. Thank you for keeping our residents safe. Have a great day. Friday July 14, 2023 - Sprinkler Project Update Our Sprinkler Project started on April 17th. We have just finished 12 weeks, with this past week taken up with many many moves in our home. We thank you for your assistance and cooperation as we navigate this large important project for resident safety. The next phase will be the section of Terrace Court at the end of the long corridor, we call it Memory Lane, to the left of the elevators. This work will start on Monday, July 17th. With some extra crews booked to be on site, we are hopeful for a shorter duration of displacement for the residents. Access to Terrace Court for the next phase will be to the right off the elevator through Hopewell Court. We thank you for your cooperation in always following our signs and not crossing any construction barriers at any time. Please be sure to let other visitors know this information as well. On behalf of the Rocmaura Management Team we send a big thank you to each of our staff who go above and beyond in the care and service of our residents every day and assisted with the myriad of moves that have taken place since the project started, especially this week, which were the largest number of moves at one time since we began. Bravo to a great team and team effort! If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. M. Theresa Mercer, BBA, CPA Acting Executive Director and Director of Financial Services Tel 506-643-7062 Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC (She/Her) Director of Nursing [email protected] Phone: 643-7061 Monday May 8, 2023 - Merging of Hopewell & Terrace Court 2nd Floor The nurse managers, acting executive director, and I met last week in regards to our changing clientele and the need for Rocmaura to transition along with the systemic changes we are experiencing. We would like to share this information with you and are looking forward to your help as we transition. In the near future, we will be combining the upstairs court into one; there will no longer be a Hopewell court. The nurse managers will each have ½ of the court to manage, and the care will be divided into 3 equal sections. This will allow for each section to have an LPN for passing medications and to assist in that section. During times when there may only be 2 LPNs available, the RNs will pass meds for ½ of the middle section. This will allow everyone to get assigned tasks completed in a timely manner. RAs will have an assignment much the same as now; care will not change, but reporting may be to a different RN depending on what section each person will be working in. During the movement of residents for our sprinkler system upgrade, we will see a gradual blending of residents with different needs happen on the court. We know that we need to be proactive and move forward. We do not have control in how long term care is changing, but we can make adjustments to help us successfully deal with the changing dynamics. We know that change is difficult for many, and we ask that you trust that we have the best interest of our residents, families and staff at heart. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me and I will do my best to ease your mind. Warm Regards, Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC, Director of Nursing [email protected] Phone: 643-7061 April 26, 2023 - Construction on Burpee Avenue Beginning on May 1st, the City of Saint John will be blocking the lower 1/2 of Burpee Ave, between “Origins Daycare and the Chateau SJ Hotel” for an undetermined number of weeks. This means that all traffic must approach Rocmaura from Parks St. or Mount Pleasant St. Street parking on Burpee Ave, outside of RRR will be limited and may become impossible as the city work continues. Thank you, Paula Breen Support Services Manager [email protected] 506 643-7058 April 4, 2023 - Staff Photo ID's
Have you ever wondered who is behind the mask? Starting this week, all staff will be asked to get their picture taken and it will be placed on your access cards for places you need to go in the home and will be part of your required uniform. This is a great way for your residents, families, and coworkers to be able to know you. Please display your new photo ID's on the left side of your chest. Picture name tags are available every Wednesday, starting April 5 (8:30am-12noon or 1:00pm-3:30pm) with Janice Carr in the Payroll office. Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC March 31, 2023 6:30 p.m. - Sprinkler Project Announcement Message for All Families We are writing today with some news about a very large project we are preparing for here at Rocmaura. You may have heard a bit of the buzz in the hallways. With the exception of Trinity Court, our entire sprinkler system is being replaced, by the Province of New Brunswick, commencing on Monday, April 17th. This has been on our list of upgrades required for many years, and has finally come to fruition. There are 2 contractors Flood Construction and Viking Sprinkler. Oversight from the Province is by the Dept of Transportation and Infrastructure and our on site Manager is Harry Searle. With a project as large and challenging as this, we have been preparing our plans to accommodate the residents and staff during the expected 14 month duration project, target finish date is June, 2024. Eventually, all residents, excluding Trinity Court, will need to move out of their room, for about 4-5 weeks, as we provide the contractor with a group of 12 rooms at a time. By doing this, we can expedite their work and hopefully improve on the 14 month duration. We will be starting at the dining room end of Garden Court on April 17th. The residents’ care, comfort and safety is our primary concern as always. This has been expressed whole-heartedly to the contractors and all others that will be involved in this project. When your resident is moving, you will hear directly from the RN in charge of their current Court. All areas under construction will be set up with required air flow and fire separations. When the sprinkler system is offline, there will be 24/7 fire watch provided by the contractor. We will provide residents and staff with ear protection if and when needed. Families & Friends: How Can You Help? One of the most helpful things is to remove excess and seasonal items/clothes from your resident’s room. We truly appreciate all efforts in this regard, as that will greatly help the many moves that will happen. Please take home valuables and breakables if possible. Being here with your resident when their moves are happening would also be very helpful. We will do our best to keep you well informed as we move forward with this long overdue and needed upgrade to our facility. You may direct general questions to Theresa Mercer or Lynn McPhee below. M. We are having a storage space built at the end of Hopewell to house the essentials for the court. All tub rooms are being decluttered. Our goal is to make each of the tub rooms a SPA-LIKE experience for the residents. If you have any ideas you want to contribute, please let us know! We already have some colorful new shower curtains and look forward to having some little extras to create that relaxing environment. We have requested towel warmers for each Spa Room and the Foundation has added it to our wish list! It is fantastic to be able to do this for the residents and I thank everyone who will make this happen! Lynn McPhee BN RN GNCC Friday November 18, 2022 5:30pm - New Locking System Due to updated resident safety requirements, we have implemented a new locking mechanism on the inside door at the Burpee Avenue entrance. When residents wearing wanderguard bracelets are within 8 feet of the door, the door will stay locked and you will not be able to use the red button to enter. The door will remain locked until the resident moves further away. We ask your patience while the resident is re-directed. When exiting the building, if the alarm is set off from inside, as it has been in the past, a staff member will have to reset the alarm on the wall as we have been doing all along. As you are exiting the building, please make sure the door closes behind you, so that residents who are not able to leave unaccompanied, remain safely in the building.
