Spring House Cleaning.

April 2025 Update.
It's Spring House Cleaning Time! Every April we ask families to sort through their loved ones belongings and remove excess items. Closets and drawers get overfilled with clothing, suitcases, shoes, boxes and out of season items.
Some closets become so full that staff cannot properly close them and the hinges are breaking. We appreciate your ongoing help.

What Should Families Provide for a Resident?

Christmas Gift Ideas

If you are not sure what your loved one needs this Christmas, we have a few suggestions!
First check the list on the closet door of each resident’s room. You will find a list of items they need.
The end of the year is also a good time to go through your loved ones closet and take home what they do not need.
We recommend no more than 8 seasonal outfits.
 Gift Ideas:
  • Adaptive Clothing, and Capes  Visit www.silverts.com
  • Calendars with pictures that bring back memories
  • Cross word puzzle books
  • White Boards and dry erase markers
  • Photos, in a small album
Give a gift of Time & Connection!
  • Send a Christmas Card to-  Resident - Rocmaura 10 Parks St. Saint John NB E2K 4P1
  • Purchase a gift card for a music therapy session!
These are $50 for 1 hour.  All you have to do is make a donation on our website. We’ll make sure you get a tax receipt and direct your gift to the right program.
Give an hour of your time to:
  •        Read to a resident
  •        Assist a loved one with their meal
  •       Do a resident's nails
 NO Please
  • Pointsettias – however, Michaels has lovely artificial ones
  • Scented flowers
  • Blankets - we have lots presently
  • Powder - these cause breathing issues

What can I provide for my family member at Rocmaura?

Rocmaura strives to have a home-like environment & encourage family pictures & keepsakes, etc.  Adequate furnishings are supplied.
  • Due to limited storage areas…Residents require clothing for the season. i.e. in spring, please remove winter articles of clothing and take those home prior to bringing in the spring/summer wear.  In fall, remove summer articles and replace with winter etc.
  • It is strongly suggested that residents have a maximum of 8 - 10 suitable outfits at any one time in their wardrobes however; they will likely will require more than 8 – 10 of the smaller personal items such as undergarments (socks, underwear, bras or undershirts) and night clothes.
  • Please take-home items such as suitcases & out-of-season clothing.  After a special event such as Christmas, take home any Resident owned decorations due to lack of storage space.
  • Televisions – The wardrobes in the facility can accommodate 19-20” television however; larger T.V.’s can be brought in, however; there is a higher risk of them being damaged.  Rocmaura is not responsible for damage.
  • All electrical appliances such as lamps or radios as well as furniture must be inspected by Maintenance prior to use.  Deliver these items to the nursing station; nursing staff will complete the appropriate requisition & maintenance will deliver to res. room.
  • Parking: Please do not park in designated fire lanes or handicap parking areas.
  • For more information, please visit our FAQ's section under the Admissions page.

Furniture.

We ask that families discuss with nursing staff before bringing any furniture in.  Armchairs may interfere with the care of a Resident or their roommate's mobility.

Please wait a minimum of one month, before bringing in any chair or furniture, to allow the Resident to settle in, and time for staff to get familiar with their care needs.

No power chairs are allowed. Recliners are permitted, just not power ones.

Furniture must be lightweight and fit specified dimensions.

  • Please consult your Unit Manager and E.V.S. Manager due to specific guidelines to facilitate our work and to maintain a safe environment.
  • Furnishings brought into the home must be delivered via receiving entrance to facilitate a disinfection process.
