Dietary
Does Rocmaura have a dietitian?
Yes, Rocmaura has a part time dietitian, who assesses every Resident and determines their appropriate diet, taking into account special dietary requirements, to provide each resident with good food and nutrition.
Tell me about your menu.
Rocmaura makes most of their food from scratch, we are very proud of our home cooked meals. The menu is developed by the dietitian, chef and others' input. The menu repeats every 4 weeks and is changed each season (spring/summer and fall/winter). Each resident is provided breakfast, lunch, supper as well as afternoon and evening snacks.
Where do residents eat their meals?
Residents are encouraged to eat in their dining room, with others. We have a main dining lounge on the first floor, and smaller lounges on the courts. Tray service is available for those that require it.
Can I bring my loved one snacks or food?
Yes. Food must be stored in sealed containers (Tupperware-like) and may be kept in the Resident's room, or the lounge refrigerator on their court. Please ensure containers are labeled with resident's name and date. Housekeepers will remove any outdated or spoiled food as necessary.
Containers will be salvaged, if possible.

Are resident rooms cleaned every day?
Yes, the housekeeping staff are in the facility seven days per week between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
There is a decrease in the number of staff on weekends, so thorough cleaning duties are decreased; however, spills or areas of concern and washrooms are a priority.

How often is my loved one's room cleaned?
Residents' rooms are cleaned once daily beginning at 9:00 a.m. Washrooms are the top priority. Due to the large square footage of our home, housekeeping are only able to get around to every room once per day, and therefor all rooms cannot be cleaned in the morning.
For example, if a room was cleaned at 9:00 a.m. and you visit at 2:00 p.m. , there may have been an incident requiring additional attention.
If there is a spill or other issue, simply ask housekeeping staff directly for assistance, or speak to the Nurse Unit Manager on your court, who will then direct someone to clean up any messes.

In the event of a fire or fire drill; when the fire alarm sounds, stay where you are, and a staff member will direct you if needed.

Security “mag lock” doors are utilized in our facility, for the safety and security of all residents, staff can give direction as to how this system operates & the keypad. (Generally it is the current year followed by #.)
Wander alert system: Some residents wear a special bracelet that alerts staff when they are near an exterior entrance, indicated by a low “beep”.
If that exterior door opens, an alarm will ring. Do not panic, attempt to ensure the resident near the door does not exit and inform staff.
Stairwells are off limits to visitors; they are accessible in the event of an emergency by inputting a code into the keypad. This will set off an alarm.

Laundry
Is Dry Cleaning available?
No, clothes that require dry cleaning are the family’s responsibility.
How much clothing does my loved one need?
It is strongly suggested that residents have a maximum of 8 - 10 suitable outfits at any one time in their wardrobes.
Residents require only enough clothing for the season. i.e., in spring, please remove winter articles of clothing and take those home prior to bringing in the spring/summer wear. In fall, remove summer articles and replace with winter. Please ensure all items are labeled at Rocmaura, prior to taking to the resident’s room. (See below)
Residents very likely will require more than 12 or more of each of the smaller personal items such as undergarments (socks, underwear, bras or undershirts) and night clothes especially if they are incontinent. Please discuss the amount required with the care staff, to avoid not having enough or having too much.

Do I have to launder my loved one’s clothing?
No, Rocmaura staff launder most of our resident’s personal linens/clothing in house.
All personals must be labeled even if family intend to launder at home, at a cost to the resident of $20 /100 labels and $10/50 labels.
Delicate items: (wool, silk, 100% cotton, rayon, bras with underwire or hooks can easily be damaged in our wash process due to intense high heat (required for infection control purposes) therefore we are not responsible for them. Family is encouraged to take such articles such home as laundering them yourself, may extend the life of the articles.
Non-personal Linens: Linens supplied by the facility, are laundered by Facilicorp/Service NB.

Label Clothing/Christmas Gifts.
If you are purchasing clothing for your loved one, bring it in and have it labeled. If this is a Christmas gift, have the item labeled before you wrap it. As you can imagine, there is quite a pile of labelling to be done for the holidays. Getting clothing labelled early will help avoid things getting lost. If you have items to be labelled, please drop them off directly to the laundry department in the basement. Please make sure the items are in a bag with the resident's name marked on them. If you do not want them to be delivered to the resident right away, please add a note stating that the items remain in the laundry department for family to return and pick up on specified date.
